Sophie Robertson

Sophie RobertsonAssociate

Sophie joined Bermans in 2019 and is an Associate in our Liverpool Employment team.

She previously worked at a National firm and more recently a Regional firm where she trained and qualified as a Solicitor in 2019.

Prior to qualification, Sophie studied law at Lancaster University before going on to complete her LPC at BPP in Liverpool.

Sophie has experience acting for a range of employers from SMEs to PLCs across a variety of sectors, including Housing Associations, Manufacturing, Construction, Hospitality and Education.

Sophie has experience in working across both contentious and non-contentious employment work and specialises in:

  • Guiding employers through complex disciplinary, absence management and redundancy procedures, including restructures and collective redundancies.
  • Providing support and guidance on managing flexible working requests, TUPE transfers, Working Time Regulations and employment status issues.
  • Representing clients in the Employment Tribunal on a varied caseload including Unfair and Constructive Dismissal, Discrimination and Whistleblowing claims.
  • Drafting and negotiating contracts of employment, consultancy agreements, Directors Service Agreements and Settlement Agreements.
  • Providing inhouse training to senior management teams on various aspects of employment law, including drug and alcohol misuse at work and supporting employees during the menopause. Recent successes for Sophie include successfully defending a multi-day Employment Tribunal case in which the Client’s former employee claimed discrimination (race and disability), whistleblowing and unfair dismissal. All the claims were dismissed by the Tribunal.
